A convoy of vehicles rallying support for the National League for Democracy heading towards Natmauk Township from Taungdwingyi Township in Magway Region had to turn round after Myothit Townwship’s toll gate did not allow access.

Thousands of locals from Taungdwingyi Township on their vehicles rallied support for the NLD in its election campaign on October 20. They headed for Natmauk Township. But on the way, they were denied entry to Myothit Town and had to turn back.

“When our convoy of cars and motorcycles reached there, the gate was closed. They said the motorcyclists were not wearing helmets. We tried to negotiate with them. Our cars were not allowed either. Since we didn’t want to argue with them, we decided to turn round,” said a leader of the convoy.

The entrance to Myothit Township is now a checkpoint where health checks are being conducted in the Covid-19 outbreak. It is also being deployed by officials from the general administration department, the police department and other government departments.
