The Union Election Commission announced on June 13 that Arakan Patriotism Party (APP) had been allowed to abolish.

APP decided to merge with Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) during its central executive committee meeting on October 20 and a talk on unity on October 23 last year.

"We have to do such things in line with the union election commission rules. Their members have to join us. Our party has offices in many townships of Rakhine State. But we have yet to form committees. When those townships form committees, they can join them," said ALD secretary Myo Kyaw.

APP applied to the UEC in January this year for its abolition so that it could join ALD. The commission allowed the abolition six months after.

APP members said they decided to merge with ALD as they respect the political background and history of that party.

ALD is due to hold its party conference in 2021.
