259 latest iPhones, $120K, 16 blocks of gold confiscated at Yangon Int’l Airport

More than 250 units of iPhone 15 Pro Max, over 100,000 US dollars, and 16 blocks of gold were seized at Yangon International Airport on November 4 as the passengers who brought them could not show any legal documents, the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee has reported.

The goods were seized as three passengers could not submit legal documents related to their stuff put in their luggage at the import section of the airport on November 4. The seized illegal goods are worth 4,235,659,734 kyats in total— iPhone 15 Pro Max units worth about Ks3,946,500,000, what is assumed to be 1,200 100-dollar notes worth US$120,000 and 16 blocks of gold bearing 999.91 kilo. Action is being taken in accord with the customs procedures.

On November 3, an inspection carried out by the Taninthayi Region Illegal Trade Eradication Committee’s special team led to the confiscation of two kinds of illegal goods including 4,608 packets of 888 playing cards worth about Ks17,289,600 in front of Golden Palace Bakery in Daweisu Ward, Myeik.

Additionally, on November 3, 10,080 bottles of Wellman worth about Ks289,159,734 were seized from a container at the Asian Wall Container Inspection Yard as any import license could not be shown for the imported items.

On November and 3 and 4, there were 12 seizures of illegally imported goods worth Ks4,365,949,334, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
