Indian External Affairs Minister urges to ensure safety of its projects in Myanmar

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has urged Myanmar's Foreign Minister to ensure the security of ongoing projects in Myanmar, shared Dr. Jaishankar on his social media platform, X.

Myanmar's Foreign Minister, U Than Swe, met with the Indian External Affairs Minister in New Delhi during a visit following his participation in the 19th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) held in Tehran, Iran. During their meeting, the two ministers discussed the current situation in Myanmar and the security of various projects within the country.

Dr. S. Jaishankar has urged Myanmar to return to the path of democracy as soon as possible and assured that India is ready to assist in any way necessary. He also requested Myanmar to provide reliable security for Indian economic projects within the country.

Dr. Jaishankar further appealed for cooperation in repatriating Indian nationals stranded in Myawady. He expressed India's concern over the ongoing instability in Myanmar and highlighted that India has kept channels open for dialogue with all relevant stakeholders to address the situation.

India has been investing in the Kaladan Road Project in Myanmar since 2010, although the project is yet to be completed. Additionally, India has invested USD 776.77 million in 38 ventures in Myanmar, accounting for 0.83% of total foreign investments in the country, according to data from the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA).
