The people fleeing the war due to the armed conflicts in the southern part of Shan State need emergency food and basic health care, reported the Pa-O Youth Organization (PYO).

During more than four months from January 21 to June 8, the PYO reported it based on a survey of the fighting situations in Hsihseng, Nyaungshwe, Hopong and Pinlaung townships in Southern Shan State.

Due to armed conflicts in Southern Shan State, gas station, there are 53,400 civilians who are still fleeing the war in Hsihseng, Nyaungshwe, and Pinlaung townships.

Among these townships, Hsihseng Township has the largest number of refugees from the war, of which 15,000 or more are refugees from Kayah State. Refugees from Kayah State are also sheltering in Pinlaung, Nyaungshwe, Taunggyi and Hopong, according to the PYO.

The PYO said in a statement that as time goes by, the displaced people are in urgent need of food and drinking water, as well as basic health care and medicines.

Currently, there are only more than 50,000 IDPs left in southern Shan State, but the danger of landmines and residual weapons left during the armed conflict is affecting the lives of the residents, as well as the agriculture sector. There are many agricultural lands that cannot be used as agricultural land due to the presence of such dangers, reported the PYO.

In southern Shan State, 77 civilians have been killed and 101 injured in more than four months due to armed conflicts between the joint forces of the Tatmadaw and Pa-O National Army (PNA) and the allied forces of the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA).

These civilian casualties resulted from a combination of airstrikes, artillery attacks, drone strikes, and bombings, according to the PYO.

During the height of the conflict, southern Shan State witnessed 463 airstrikes and 3,538 artillery attacks. These attacks caused significant damage to 708 buildings, as documented by the PYO.

A total of 90 percent of the building damages was caused by air strikes, artillery attacks and drone strikes, it said.

The PYO said that it is based on the ground information and online information that it has received, and the numbers on the ground may be higher than this.

Due to the intense armed conflict in Hsihseng Township, the PNLA has issued a warning to local residents, advising them to avoid entering the town, refrain from checking on their homes, and seek temporary refuge in safer areas away from the ongoing armed conflicts.
