H1N1 death toll climbs to 112

Till September 13, the number of H1N1 death toll reached 112, and 716 out of 1,676 patients were found to have been infected with H1N1, according to Ministry of Health and Sports.

Two more deaths were recently reported from Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay. 

Out of 479 influenza-like illness (ILI) patients, 122 of them are H1N1 patients; 22, influenza A (H3N2) patients ; and 32, influenza B patients. Out of 1,198 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients, 437 of them are H1N1 patients; 38, influenza A (H3N2) patients; and 66, influenza B patients. 

An official of the Central Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Division under the Public Health Department said: “The total H1N1 death toll reached 112—68 in Yangon Region, 14 in Ayeyawady Region, ten in Bago Region, four each in Magway and Sagaing Regions, three each in Mandalay Region and Mon State, two in Rakhine State and one each in Nay Pyi Taw, Kachin, Shan (South) and Taninthayi.”

The transmission of seasonal influenza among those with chronic diseases, the elderly and infants are more severe. From January to September 9, there were 110 reported deaths. During this period, the death of patients aged between 15 and 65 is the highest, accounting for 44 per cent of the total figure. A total of 88 patients with chronic diseases died, making up 80 per cent of the total figure. The high death toll is associated with last hospitalization.
