Myanmar has so far established the new ministry of immigration and human resources in 12 regions and states.

The number reaches 12 after the President Office announced on July 2 the ministry establishment in Magway Region, Ayeyawady Region and Mon State. The remaining nine regions and states set up their ministries on June 27 and 28. They are Kayah, Kayin, Kachin and Chin states and Yangon, Mandalay, Taninthayi, Sagaing and Bago regions.

Mandalay Region Chief Minister and National League for Democracy Vice Chairman (2) Dr Zaw Myint Maung said new ministry establishment was aimed at creating job opportunities and ensuring that migrant people cast their vote easily.

The President sent messages on July 19 to regions and states each to form a ministry of immigration and human resources. Most of the region and state parliaments with the majority of MPs from the NLD approved the ministry formation.

However, Rakhine State Parliament voted down the proposal citing budget waste because the government's term is only a year left to be over as the reason.

Currently, Shan State Parliament only has yet to discuss the proposal. But its emergency meeting scheduled on July 8, the parliament will reportedly discuss the matter.

The regions and states that have established the ministry are now planning to appoint ministers.

Mon State Parliament deputy speaker Dr Aung Naing Oo told the media on July 2 that the new ministry has less potential to operate well because of the remaining short term of the government.
