Vehicle carrying Myanmar migrant workers catches fire

A vehicle carrying 64 Myanmar migrant workers caught fire  at the entrance of Mae Sot on June 30 evening.

Undocumented Myanmar migrant workers that were arrested at the border of Malaysia in southern Thailand. They were being transported back to Myanmar via two vehicles when fire broke out for one.

"Between the two vehicles carrying undocumented Myanmar migrant workers, a double Decker car caught fire as it is old. Fire started at the back of the car," said  Philjoe from Mae Sot.

The car was carrying 53 men, 11 women and one child. No one was hurt from the incident.

Highway police force, Mae Sot police station and fire brigade members arrived at the location, which coincidentally is a place known for accidents to happen, and provided necessary assistance.  Within the last two years, up to 20 Myanmar migrant workers have died from accidents in the vicinity. 

Many Myanmar nationals are working illegally in Thailand by crossing the border river from Myawaddy Township in Kayin State. The Thai authorities also deport undocumented Myanmar migrant workers occasionally.
