Upgrading process of Insein-Danyinkone railway, a part of Yangon circular railway system, will be finalized on November 30, according to Myanma Railways (MR).

The MR divided east and west parts of the circular railway to undergo upgrades. The upgrading process of western portion was finished in September.

Danyinkone-Insein, Insein-Kyimyintine and Kyimyintine-Bayarlane are included in the east part of the circular railway and Danyinkone-Paywatsakekone and Paywatsakekone-Pazuntaung are included in west part of the circular railway.

A1 Company had been granted to upgrade the circular railway system, which was started on February 21.

The upgrading process of anticlockwise direction of the railroad was finished at the end of September and the upgrading process of clockwise direction of the railroad is begun on October 1.

“We arranged for the upgrading process to be stopped in rainy season at first but we faced delays so we decided to continue our work as much as we could in the rainy season. The upgrading work of anticlockwise direction of the Insein-Danyinkone railroad was finished. The upgrading process of clockwise direction of the railroad is begun on October 1 and it will be expected to finish before November 30,” said Assistant Manager Kyaw Myo Lwin from the MR.

The Yangon circular railway was built in 1958 and its major repairing is done only this year. A total of over US$94 million from state budget and over US$206 million loan from Japanese government are funded for the project, announced the MR.

The railway has about 29 miles in length and takes 2 hrs and 50 minutes for the entire railway. If the upgrading process is finished, the time will be reduced to one hour and 50 minutes. About 90,000 commuters are using the circular railway daily and there will be about 300,000 commuters using it daily if the upgrading process is finished.
