Union Parliament approves formation of joint committee

The eighth-day meeting of the eleventh regular session of the Second Union Parliament was held at the meeting hall of the Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw on February 19. 

At the meeting of the Union Parliament approved the forming of a Joint Committee to Implement Steps to Amend Constitution and Union Parliament Deputy Speaker Tun Tun Hein first explained the facts about the formation of a Joint Committee to Implement Steps to Amend Constitution. 

The joint committee includes five objectives, 14 duties, six responsibilities, four rules and regulations and six privileges. The term of the joint committee is from the day it is formed to the day it will submit a report. The report will be discussed by Union Parliament representatives. The parliament will seek approvals from the parliamentarians. The bill to amend the Constitution will have to be compiled, said Tun Tun Hein.  

The joint committee was formed with 45 members including 14 political parties, Tatmadaw representatives and independent representative. 

Tun Tun Hein, Speaker of Union Parliament, will act as the chairman, Aye Thar Aung, Deputy Speaker of Upper House, as the vice-chairman, Upper House MP Dr. Myat Nyarna Soe as the secretary and Lower House MP Htay Win Aung (a) Pyone Cho as the joint secretary.   

 At the moment the NLD nominated 18 members, ANP nominated two members, the SNLD nominated two members, Ta’ang (Palaung) National Party, Zomi Congress for Democracy, Pa-O National Organisation, Lisu National Development Party (crossbow party), Kachin State Democracy Party, Kokang Democracy and Unity Party, National Unity Party, Mon National Party, Wa Democratic Party and National United Democratic Party nominated one member each and an independent representative was nominated to the joint committee.

Although the representative lists are asked to join the joint committee, the USDP and Tatmadaw have not sent them yet, said Tun Tun Hein.
