Traffic accidents kill 135, injury 429 in Yangon in two months

Yangon--During two months this year, there were 407 traffic-related accidents in Yangon, leaving more than 130 people dead and over 420 people injured, according to the traffic police's record.

In late January, there were 203 traffic-related accidents in Yangon, killing 62 people and injuring 232 others.

A total of 204 traffic-related accidents were reported in late February, killing 73 people and injuring 197 others.

Due to traffic accidents, more than two people die every day on average and more than seven people get injured every day on average.

There were 2,324 traffic-related accidents in Yangon Region last year, leaving 671 people dead and 2,667 others injured.

This is the highest number of traffic-related deaths within three years.

Last year, the average daily traffic fatality rate in Yangon Region was 6.36 per cent  and the average daily traffic-related injury, 6.65 per cent.
