Five stations to issue certificate of identity (CI) and three mobile units will be opened in the last week of February for Myanmar nationals arriving in Thailand without passports, sources said.

The certificate of identity will be issued from February at five CI stations in Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Pathum Thani and Surat Thani provinces and three mobile units in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and Songkhla towns, and a token ticket in the process of CI which cost for 2,200 baht is too high and should be reviewed, said U Moe Gyo, chairman of the Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs (JACBA).

"Five CI stations will be opened in Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Pathum Thani and Surat Thani provinces and three mobile units in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and Songkhla towns from February 23. The price of the book called CI will cost 710 baht, 1,100 baht for the visa fee, 450 baht for Myanmar's two percent tax, 2,200 baht to buy a token ticket, totaling 4,560 baht. Thai authorities act as an intermediary for those who do not have a complete household list or registration in Myanmar and cannot directly obtain a passport. Token purchase fee of 2,200 baht is very high for making CI. What I would like to discuss is that if the token price is reduced, it will lessen the cost for Myanmar citizens arriving in Thailand. It should be reviewed to reduce this cost. I would like to recommend that the token fee should be reviewed to reduce it during this time of crisis," said JACBA Chairman U Moe Gyo.

From February 15, they can get an appointment token at 7-Eleven convenience stores all over Thailand, and it is mandatory to visit the designated CI stations during the appointment period obtained from 7-Eleven convenience stores, he said.

Five stations to issue CI will be opened in Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Pathum Thani and Surat Thani provinces, to those who are working in Thailand and do not have a passport, announced the Myanmar Labour Attaché Office in Thailand.
