A ceremony of public coffee cupping took place on March 14 in which tasters from Singapore, Hong Kong and Myanmar testing the quality of five samples of coffee seeds produced from Ywangan in Shan State.

Genius Coffee in Myanmar is exporting internationally marketable specialty coffee. At the ceremony, tasters from Singapore and Hong Kong as well as Q graders from Myanmar tested the quality of five coffee samples and give marks.

The samples of the five coffee seeds are named Geisha, Pink Bourborn, Yellow Cattura, Red Catual and Saramon. The marking was given after deciding the 10 norms related to quality, aroma and taste.

"To ensure maintaining specialty coffee status, we have to mainly consider the cleanliness of, pest-free and fungus-free of every sample of coffee seed. Besides, we check for the aroma, taste and quality to give marks," said coffee taster Kyaing Ko Ko Oo from Aung Nay Lin Tun Company.

Ngwe Tun, founder of Genius Coffee said: "According to the international standards, coffee will be become specialty if it gets over 80 marks. Our Myanmar coffee seeds are over 80 marks. Geisha coffee produced from Alekaingkyun Village in Ywangan Township gets 91.25 marks. It is regarded as Myanmar's best coffee. I am very glad that Genius Shan Taung Myint Coffee can produce the best coffee. Like coffee we imported from Panama four years ago, we can product it now. I believe that new coffee species from Ywangan will penetrate the international market."
