Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), has announced that Myanmar is currently engaged in discussions with Russia regarding the establishment of a new deep sea port. The primary objective of this project is to facilitate the docking of vessels weighing over 200,000 tons.

During an interview with ITAR-TASS Media of the Russian Federation at the Credentials Hall of Zeyathiri Beikman in the Yangon Region on the morning of March 18, he discussed sectoral cooperation between Russia and Myanmar.

The Senior General stated, “We have ambitious plans to construct a deep-sea port. Our objective is to facilitate the docking of vessels weighing over 200,000 tonnes at this port. Currently, we are engaged in discussions with Russia regarding this significant project.”

The proposed deep-sea port will be situated in Dawei Township, which lies in the southern part of Myanmar.

“For the first point, we have islands, beaches, and pearl production. The world’s best pearls are produced there. Annually, we hold the pearl sale. Myanmar’s pearls are the best across the world, comprising farmed pearls and natural pearls. We also have many underwater natural projects. Therefore, I will provide you with a documentary on these processes,” stated the Senior General.
