Myanmar and Russia have held talks to strengthen bilateral banking cooperation, enhance the capacity of Myanmar’s central bank staff, and expand collaboration in financial technology.
During a meeting in Moscow between the governors of the two countries’ central banks, officials discussed banking cooperation and exchanged views on financial sector development. The Myanmar delegation also met executives from Russia’s Sber Bank, who presented the bank’s cybersecurity systems, anti-fraud technologies, and its biometric “Smile Pay” payment platform.
From July 1 to 3, Myanmar’s central bank delegation attended an international financial conference in St. Petersburg, where participants discussed emerging financial technologies, digital platforms based on the Russian ruble, cryptocurrency regulation, and macroeconomic stability. The delegation also held separate talks with central bank governors from several countries, including Nicaragua, to explore future banking cooperation.
The conference attracted about 11,000 participants from 18 countries, and the Myanmar delegation returned home on July 5.
