Published 20 March 2024

After a lengthy suspension that lasted nearly five months, flights in Lashio, Shan State (Northern), have finally taken to the skies again yesterday , according to an official from Lashio Airport.

The first flights to resume include: Yangon - Lashio and Lashio - Yangon.

Additionally, the flight from Yangon to Lashio recently touched down at Lashio Airport at 4:10 p.m.

A local resident from Lashio expressed their relief: "with flights back in operation, we now have the choice to travel comfortably. Previously, the absence of flights made it extremely challenging to reach destinations like Mandalay, Yangon, and Nay Pyi Taw. A journey that used to take about 6 hours now stretched into almost a full day, incurring additional expenses. Now, with flights available, it’s a convenient option for locals who want to travel within a short time."

The relevant counters are currently selling flight tickets for the routes: Lashio-Yangon on March 19, Lashio-Mandalay on March 20 and Lashio-Tachileik on March 22.

Lashio Airport is now operating several key routes, including: Lashio-Yangon, Lashio-Mandalay, Lashio-Tachileik, Lashio-Myitkyina and Lashio-Heho.

Despite challenges posed by the destruction of key bridges in the region, the resumption of flights brings hope and convenience to travelers in Lashio and beyond.
