A Myanmar military goodwill delegation led by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo arrived in Laos on November 3 at the invitation of Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith, Lao Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of General Staff.
Following an official guard-of-honour welcome ceremony, General Ye Win Oo held formal discussions with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Khamlieng Outhakayson as well as Lt. Gen. Kommasith.
The discussions focused on bolstering bilateral Defence cooperation, regularizing high-level exchange visits, expanding joint training, and coordinating within regional mechanisms including ASEAN, the CLMV bloc, and the Mekong cooperation frameworks. Both sides agreed to reinforce security and stability along the shared border and the Mekong River through regular meetings of regional and joint border security committees while fostering border trade.
The delegations also addressed coordinated crackdowns on transnational crime, focusing on narcotics trafficking and the illicit revenues used by ethnic armed groups to procure weapons. The Myanmar delegation underscored its ongoing campaigns against online fraud and illegal gambling, noting that authorities have dismantled 1,053 scam-related buildings to date, while reaffirming Myanmar's commitment to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in foreign relations.
