China supports Myanmar’s efforts to achieve political reconciliation and backs the new Myanmar government in maintaining stability, developing the economy, improving people's livelihoods and revitalizing development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and China's Foreign Minister, made the remarks during a meeting with Myanmar Union Minister for National Planning, Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Kyaw Hoe in Beijing on November 3.

U Aung Kyaw Hoe was in China to attend the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

During the meeting, Wang Yi said that China and Myanmar were close neighbours and fraternal countries that had stood together through difficulties, forming a community with a shared future in which they supported one another.

He recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping held important talks with Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing during the latter's state visit to China in June this year. Both sides agreed to accelerate efforts to build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.

Wang Yi said China supported Myanmar's efforts to achieve political reconciliation and supported the new government in maintaining stability, promoting economic development, improving people's livelihoods and revitalizing development.

He described China as a reliable strategic partner of Myanmar and said China was willing to work together with Myanmar to further deepen and consolidate the China-Myanmar community with a shared future.

Wang Yi also stressed the need for the two countries to balance development and security, steadily implement key projects under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and strengthen cooperation in sectors such as energy and natural resources.

He called for intensified efforts to combat online gambling and online scams and to prevent complicated incidents from recurring in Myawady Township.

He also expressed hope that Myanmar would take effective measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese nationals, organizations and projects operating in the country.

In response, Union Minister U Aung Kyaw Hoe said Myanmar adhered to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and would continue to promote the traditional friendship between Myanmar and China. He reaffirmed Myanmar's consistent commitment to the One-China policy.

He said President U Min Aung Hlaing's successful recent visit to China had further strengthened the development of bilateral relations.

He also expressed gratitude for China's assistance in Myanmar's post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction efforts.

U Aung Kyaw Hoe said Myanmar wished to work closely with China to accelerate implementation of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor projects and continuously enhance mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

He added that Myanmar would intensify efforts to combat online scams in cooperation with China and other countries in the region.

The minister also welcomed Chinese companies to invest and conduct business in Myanmar and expressed special appreciation for China's support for Myanmar's position on international platforms.

He concluded by saying that Myanmar would cooperate with China to ensure the successful convening of the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
