YCDC Invites Tenders to Convert Yangon's Waste into Electricity and Bio-CNG

The Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) has invited local and international firms to submit proposals for waste-to-energy projects utilizing over 2,500 daily tons of garbage from the Hteinpin and Daweichaung dumpsites.

The initiative covers three primary development options: generating electricity from captured landfill methane gas, refining methane into compressed biomethane (a 90% purified CNG substitute), or generating power via an incineration plant. Both dumpsites receive municipal waste from 33 Yangon townships, with Hteinpin handling roughly 1,500 tons and Daweichaung taking about 1,000 tons daily.

Bidders may operate independently or as joint ventures. Proposals—which must detail investment figures, feasibility timelines, land and water requirements, profit-sharing models, tipping fees, energy tariff rates, and carbon credit plans—are due to YCDC’s Pollution Control and Cleansing Department by December 31.
