On September 22, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi met with a Japanese delegation led by House of Representatives member Hiromichi Watanabe at the parliamentary building in Nay Pyi Taw.

Marking 72 years of diplomatic ties, U Khin Yi highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations and expressed readiness to strengthen legislative engagement. He proposed bilateral collaboration across parliamentary committees, youth and women's affairs, technology, and agriculture, noting that parliament is reviewing legal frameworks to foster an investor-friendly environment.

Mr. Watanabe affirmed the close historical bond between Japan and Myanmar, emphasizing that his visit aimed to revitalize bilateral cooperation and resume Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects starting with parliamentary ties. He also noted past joint efforts in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone and the agricultural sector, extended an invitation for the Speaker to visit Japan, and pledged to foster deeper cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
