Taninthayi Regional government has to take responsibility of over eight billion debt owed by Global Grand Services (GGS) Company to Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), said Khin Maung Thin, Director General of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE) during a regular monthly press conference held at the office of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in Nay Pyi Taw on March 14.

“It will be paid by the company but the regional government need to demand for it,” he said.

“The ministry will guide them not to stop their business as electricity supply will cease if the company stopped running,” he replied to a question in concern with the involvement of some company officials in the major graft case investigated by anti-corruption commission.

He added the decision to continue the cooperation with the company is not under the supervision of the ministry and concerns the management of the regional government.

He continued, “It is not our concern as it is under the management of the regional government. We only provided natural gas to generate electricity. If it is included in the national grid, it will be under the management of the ministry.”

The GGS Company needs to pay off their debts and the ministry is providing about two million cubic feet of natural gas daily.

MP Dr Khun Thin Thaung of No.11 Constituency of Kachin State said on December 18 that the MEPE needs to solve the issue in which the regional government was silent over the debt of the GGS and asked the electricity and energy minister to come to meet them.
