SNLD to compete in four regions and states in 2020 general election

Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) will compete in Shan, Kayah and Kachin states and Mandalay Region in 2020 general election, said its General Secretary Sai Leik.

The party will compete in all townships in Shan State and some townships in Mandalay Region, Kachin and Kayah states, he said.

The party held central executive committee meeting in Taunggyi on January 21 and 22 and its Chairman Khun Tun Oo didn’t attend the meeting. Only Sai Nyunt Lwin, Vice Chairman 1 and the party central executive committee members attended.

They discussed about preparation works for 2020 election and the actions of the party in union parliament and state parliament.

They are planning strategies for election and choosing candidates, he said.

The party is concerned of election in townships in northern Shan State where fighting is still broke out, he said.

The SNLD is a member of United Nationalities Alliance (UNA) and will discuss with the UNA to compete in Kayah and Kachin states, he said.

SNLD party or Tiger Head party was established in October 1988 and the party won the largest number of seats in 1990 election after current ruling NLD party.
