A parliamentary candidate representing the Union Solidarity and Development Party has been disqualified from contesting the 2020 general election for being a civil servant when he applied for a candidate, Kantbalu District Election Sub-commission chairman Kyaw Nyunt quoted the Union Election Commission as saying.

The disqualified candidate is Aung Maung, retired deputy director general of the Consumer Affairs Department under the Ministry of Commerce. He planned to contest a seat of Upper House Parliament in Sagaing Region Constituency No (2).

“He was disqualified by the Union Election Commission. He is not entitled for being a civil servant. Before taking retirement pension, he applied for that candidate, which is why he was disqualified,” Kyunt Nyunt said.

For the 2020 general election to be held on November 8, Sagaing Region has 685 candidates who are competing in 125 constituencies.

The National League for Democracy, the Union Solidarity and Development Party, the United Democratic Party (Rose Party) and the Union Betterment Party are due to compete in all the constituencies.
