More than 60 senior officers from the military reserve force of Myanmar including military representatives for the parliament were allowed to retire in the last week of July this year, according to a high-ranking military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The retirees include four major generals, 14 brigadier generals and over 40 colonels. Among those who have retired were senior officers with a rank of major general or brigadier general who served as parliamentary representatives under the previous government.

According to some retired senior military officers, even generals have been serving in the military reserve force. In the military, those who were not promoted as one level ahead after serving two years as the current posts were usually sent to the reserve force.

Sources close to the military say that under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, some senior officers in the reserve force used to be moved back to the military and their former status restored.

Currently, some senior officers from the military reserve force have reportedly been assigned duties to supervise the ongoing rehabilitation work since the cyclone Mocha hit Myanmar.
