Over $480m loan to be sought from ADB to build Bago-Kyaikhto Expressway

The Ministry of Construction has submitted a proposal to Union parliament seeking a loan of US$483.8 million from Asian Development Bank (ADB) to implement the project of Bago-Kyaikhto Expressway.

Deputy Minister Dr Kyaw Lin submitted the proposal during a meeting of Union parliament held in Nay Pyi Taw on July 17.

“Bago-Kyaikhto Expressway project is part of the economic corridor of Greater Mekong. In the East-West Economic Corridor, the road will connect Darn Port in Vietnam and Thilawa Port in Yangon by passing through Laos and Thailand,” said the deputy minister.

He said thanks to the project, there will be balanced development in the eastern parts of Yangon such as Thanlyin, Thilawa, Thonegwa, Kayan, Thanetpin  and Bago road contributing to socio-economic progress of Myanmar citizens.

The four-lane Bago-Kyaihto Expressway will of asphalt road with 62 kilometers in length.
