Ongoing court cases for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to be heard at new special court in Nay Pyi Taw Prison

The court cases for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will be heard at a new special court in Nay Pyi Taw Prison instead of the Zabuthiri special court, according to a source close to her cases. 

The former State Counsellor appeared in court on June 21 for the charges of breaching the procedures and disciplines in applying for land plots in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon for the projects implemented by the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.

The Zabuthiri special court, where the cases for former President U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi are being heard, was established in the compound of the Nay Pyi Taw Council area. 

The source available on June 21 quoted the judge as saying their cases will be heard at a newly constructed special court building in Nay Pyi Taw Prison.  

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi appears in court weekly for four cases for breaching the procedures and disciplines in applying for land plots in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon for the projects implemented by the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation, on case for inappropriately influence over the Election Commission, one case in which she was charged under the penal code and five cases under the Anti-Corruption Law for hire, purchase and maintenance of helicopters.

She also appears weekly in court for another case in which she was charged under the Anti-Corruption Law for reportedly receiving   550,000 US dollars in bribes from Maung Weik, owner of Sae Paing Company.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has already been sentenced to 11 years in prison for the previous cases.
