Fighting is still going on in Lashio-Mandalay Union Highway in northern Shan State and the three northern alliances have cut off the roads, so vehicles are not able to pass through, sources said.

Clashes are also taking place in Goaktwin between Nawnghkio and Kyaukme towns on Lashio-Mandalay Union Highway and the highway has not been used until November 9 due to roadblocks to prevent vehicles from passing through the roads.

"Around Goaktwin, we could hear the sounds of heavy weapons and small arms. Residents of villages where most of the armed forces can travel through have to come to Naungpain to avoid fighting. Currently, no vehicle can pass through Goaktwin Road," said a local.

As the fighting is still going on in the vicinity of Goaktwin, many locals in the area are worried that they will be hit by heavy weapons and they are taking refuge in the nearby villages, houses and monasteries.
