Lightning strike leaves mother and daughter unconscious in Thaton Township

A mother and daughter were struck by lightning and lost consciousness in the Theinseik area of Thuwunnawady town, Thaton Township, Mon State on the morning of May 7, according to locals.

On the morning of May 7, a heavy rainstorm hit Thuwunnawady town, Thaton Township, damaging the roofs of houses and trees falling down, a resident said.

He continued, "At around 11 am, a mother and daughter, who were going to work at a brick kiln in Min Tesu Ward, Theinseik area, were struck by a lightning bolt on the road and fell unconscious, so I informed the emergency social assistance and rescue teams to take them to the hospital."

The resident continued to say that the mother and daughter who were struck by lightning and lost consciousness are a 30-year-old woman and her daughter, an 11-year-old girl, who live in the Anangon area outside Kyaikkaw.

It is reported that they were transported to the Theinseik stationed hospital by Piti Heart Social Relief and Funeral Society (Naungbo) and that both mother and daughter have recovered.

Between May 7 and 11, some regions and states, including Mon State, will experience pre-monsoon rains along with strong winds, lightning and hailstorms, according to the forecast of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
