A teacher and two kindergarten (KG) students were injured after lightning struck a kokko tree on the premises of Basic Education High School No. 7 in North Okkalapa Township in Yangon Region, according to reports.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on June 1 while the teacher and the two children were standing near the tree when it was struck by lightning.
“The lightning hit a kokko tree inside the school compound. A teacher and two students were standing beneath the tree at the time. One student suffered a minor injury to the back, while the other sustained a slight injury to the face. The teacher was affected more seriously than the two children. However, none of the three are in critical condition,” an official from the Ahnine Mae Tain Pan Chi Charity Association said.
The two injured children are KG students. The injured teacher and the two students were taken to North Okkalapa General Hospital for medical treatment, according to reports.
