Yesterday, near Ngayan village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, a tragic incident unfolded as eight passenger buses were targeted by homemade mines. According to the State Administration Council (SAC), one person lost their life, and 24 passengers, including a monk, sustained injuries during the attack.

The buses—Shwe Zin Set Kyar, Sein Htay Hlaing, New Swan, Famous, Shwe Mandala, and Shwe Thanlar—were en route from Yangon to Monywa. As they approached Ngayan village, members of the PDF (People’s Defense Force) launched an assault using homemade mines and firearms, as reported by the SAC.

In the ensuing chaos, a female passenger tragically lost her life, and the wounded passengers, including the injured monk, were rushed to the Monywa Township People’s Hospital for medical attention.

Security forces swiftly responded to the incident, engaging in a firefight with PDF members along the Mandalay-Monywa road section. The PDF eventually retreated to the northern part of Monywa township. During their operations, security forces discovered and secured 30 unexploded homemade mines.

In a compassionate gesture, the Sagaing Region Chief Minister and officials from the North-west command headquarters provided financial support to the injured passengers, offering comfort during this difficult time.
