Sagaing Region National League for Democracy has lodged a complaint to the Election Commission calling for the removal of by-election winner Rohtan Pwiya from the Union Solidarity and Development Party from the list of elected parliamentary representatives as he entered a polling station in Tamu Constituency wearing a brooch depicting the party's emblem.

"We have complained about it. He entered a polling station wearing the party's emblem. He violated the commission's law. So he should not be allowed to be an elected representative. The protest letter was sent to the district and township election sub-commissions. A copy was sent to the Union Election Commission," said Myint Kyi, secretary of Sagaing Region NLD.

The USDP winning candidate said he removed the brooch on the by-election day as soon as the NLD opposed it.

"The issue has been addressed. On that day, I removed my brooch as the district and township election sub-commissions asked me. So far, I have received no reply from the region, district and township sub-commissions," said Rohtan Pwiya.

Candidates from the NLD, USDP, Zo National Region Development Party and Chin National League for Democracy contested in the by-election for Tamu Constituency on November 3. USDP candidate Rohtan Pwiya won the by-election with 1,0587 votes (10,020 votes and 567 advance votes).

A total of 69 candidates—62 from 24 political parties and seven independent candidates—competed in 13 vacant constituencies across Myanmar.

The NLD won seven seats and the major opposition USDP three seats while Shan National League for Democracy, Chin League for Democracy and an independent candidate won one seat each.
