Nine police members killed in Yoetayoke police outpost attack

Nine police members from Yoetayoke police outpost in Ponnagyun Township in Rakhine State, were killed in an attack by the Arakan Army (AA), an insurgent group, on the evening of March 9, according to a source.

Deputy Police Colonel Maung Maung Soe from Rakhine State Police Force said: “The police got attacked. There are reports of casualties. An investigation is under way.”

According to a local, the head of police station and a lance corporal escaped from the attack. Nine police members were killed in the attack. One police member is missing, and a inspector and a lance corporal were injured.

On January 4 (Independence Day), the AA carried out attacks on four police outposts in Buthidaung Township, killing 13 police members and injuring nine others.

Tatmadaw is carrying out military operations there after the AA’s attacks. Thousands of locals in Buthidaung, Kyauktaw, Yathaedaung, Ponnagyun, Ann, MraukU and Paletwa Townships, are displaced by the ongoing fights between the Tatmadaw and the AA.
