Some townships in the Yangon Region are currently facing extended power shortages, according to residents.

Electricity distribution in the region has been organized under an alternative system, where power is supplied for four-hour intervals followed by four-hour blackouts. However, this schedule has proven unreliable, with frequent shortages occurring even during designated power-on periods. Since the end of February, several townships have been enduring prolonged periods of power scarcity.

A resident of Dawbon Township shared, "When it was time for us to have electricity, it was only for a brief period, followed by another shortage. We didn't receive the expected four-hour supply."

Dawbon, Thaketa, North Dagon, South Okkalapa, Hlaing, Latha, and Mayangone townships have also been significantly impacted by these prolonged power shortages.

Addressing the issue, the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) explained that the shortages may occur due to ongoing efforts to connect power lines to extended transformers and the construction of new power lines. YESC further stated that on February 29, shortages were experienced in Hlegu, Phaunggyi, North Okkalapa, and Shwe Paukkan industrial zone due to the installation of 66 kV overhead power lines.
