Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh issued a statement on November 7, saying the news that a Bengali refugee boy was shot and injured on Bangladesh and Myanmar border as multiple wounds were fired from a Myanmar border guard post carried by Daily Star and AFP is not true.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) spokesman Major Iqbal Ahmed said, Nurul Islam, 15, was grazing cows when 17 rounds were fired from Myanmar's Rymongkhali security post, the statement said.

In this regard, Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka, contacted and questioned Myanmar border guard post. Myanmar replied that Myanmar did not fire anything. The Border Guard Bangladesh did not send an objection letter in this regard. This news is only a false one.

This news carried by Daily Star and AFP is totally wrong and it is fabricated. Soon Myanmar will begin reacceptance process after scrutinizing internally displaced persons (IDPs). An attempt to delay the repatriation process can make the internally displaced persons who want to return Myanmar misunderstand the government creating the smooth and secure return plan , the statement of Myanmar Embassy said.

In connection with the case, the Daily Eleven newspaper asked Police Lt-Colonel Tun Myint Tun. The police officer replied that there was no similar case.

“A similar incident has not been found here. On November 15, Myanmar will accept more than 2,000 Bengalis who fled to another country. Those returning by water will be accepted at Ngakhuya and then those will be carried to Hla Phoe Khaung. The news announcement carried by Daily Star and AFP caused an obstacle to the repatriation process,” said Police Lt-Colonel Tun Myint Tun.

Ye Htoo, Deputy Commissioner of Maungdaw District, said “The news is recently spreading across the country, but we don’t see and hear strange ones. We are well-prepared for the reacceptance process.”

The Joint Working Group of Bangladesh and Myanmar was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on October 31. Shahidul Haque, Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and Myint Thu, Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar agreed to hand over more than 2000 displaced persons to Myanmar as the first batch during November.

Under the agreement between Myanmar and Bangladesh, Myanmar will accept more than 2,000 displaced persons who fled to Bangladesh starting from November 15, said Dr Win Myat Aye, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. Ngakhuya repatriation camp will accept 150 displaced persons a day and then they will be transported to Hla Phoe Khaung displaced persons camp.
