Neos Air from Italy started its first Milan-Yangon direct flight on October 31, sources said.

A Boeing 767 aircraft from the airline arrived in Yangon International Airport (YIA) on October 31.

The Neos S.p.A. will fly Milan-Yangon direct flight every Wednesday with Boeing 767 aircraft. It was established on 22 June 2001 and owned six Boeing 767 aircrafts, three Boeing 767-300 ER aircrafts and two Boeing 787-9 aircrafts.

Over 11,000 Italians visited Myanmar over a period of nine months last year and more than 10,000 Italians visited in the same period during this year, according to Ministry of Hotel and Tourism.

A Chinese low budget airline, 9 Air, also introduced its services to fly a direct flight between Guangzhou and Yangon on October 28.

It will be the second direct flight after the airline flied a direct flight between Guangzhou and Mandalay on October 2. It is intended to provide services for businessmen and other passengers travelling between Yangon, the commercial capital of Myanmar and Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.

The YIA served 5.45 million passengers in 2016 and 5.92 million passengers in 2017, sources said.

The Airports Council International (AIC) announced the YIA is met with the international safety standards.

Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (YACL), the operator of YIA, requested the international survey team to identify and propose the required actions to meet international safety standards, enhancing its services and systemic safety awareness at the airport based on its current and future requirements.

The YIA is providing services for domestic flights and 26 international flights operated by 28 international airlines.
