Muse, a major Myanmar trade border town with China, sees frequent shootings, stabbings, robberies, and kidnappings

MUSE-----There have been frequent shootings, stabbings, robberies and kidnappings in Muse Township, Muse district, in northern Shan State, according to Muse dwellers and Social Welfare Associations.

“ Due to the asking of officials, we have to send the victims who had suffered from shootings and stabbings to the Muse People’s Hospital at least two times per month,” said an unidentified official from Thadar Phyu Sin Social Welfare Association.

Hnaloun Hla Social Welfare Association (Muse) also said that a man riding a motorbike planned to robe a cellphone from a couple who were also riding a motorbike on Mingalar Muse Main road in downtown Muse around 10 AM of June 12 but the robber failed his plan. So, he stabbed a man in the chest. Later, the association sent the victim to the Muse People’s Hospital but the victim didn’t get serious injury. The Hnaloun Hla Social Welfare Association has to give the helps to those without gender discrimination. The association helps with the social welfare assistances two times per month.

“The household members were talking in the compound of their yard in the evening. But, the gate of the yard opened. Meanwhile, about five gunmen came into the yard and they asked a key of safe. Later, the gunmen took not only all money from a safe but also the car. Likewise, there had been another gold thefts in the day time of Muse Township,” said a local from Muse Township.

So, EMG had tried to make the phone calls to the officials from the Muse Township concerning the burglaries and shootings but there was no reply.

As armed robberies, muggings and other crime increased the risk of Muse Township, the wealthy persons, merchants and brokers moved onto Kalaw, Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay, Yangon as well as Nay Pyi Taw.

“In the past, Muse was very delighted Township by living with the merchants and brokers. Moreover, Muse earns mostly tax for the government. After 2021, there had been increasing numbers of arms and drugs dealings as well as grumblings in Muse Township. So, the dwellers are now facing mental sufferings and they didn’t want to stay at the Muse Township and then wealthy persons transferred to secure big cities such as Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw,” said a towns-elder from Muse Township.
