Minister for Kayah State security and border affairs sent an objection letter to Karenni national Progressive Party (KNPP) as there were armed clashes between KNPP and military.

“Yes, they have sent a letter but I don’t know yet the reply from KNPP central. In my opinion, they must inform of this matter, a code which was included in the ceasefire agreement. Previously, there was an incident where 3 KNPP soldiers and one civilian were dead but no letter or notification of any sort was written,” said Khunyay Rei, in charge liaison office of KNPP Loikaw KNPP.

In the objection letter, it was stated that at the estimated point of LA 180979 on the map, 7 KNPP members attacked a military column with small weapons of 40 mm calibre. Their act caused terror among villagers and is a violation of the ceasefire agreement. In order for such incidents to not be repeated in the future, better control over the KNPP units are required, and the incident was objected too.

It was signed by Minister for Kayah State security and border affairs Maj: Kyi Myint Ngwe on behalf of Kayah State Chief Minister.

According to KNPP Phasaung township laison officer Saw Oo Kwe, exchange of fire broke out between KNPP and military on October 20 morning near Bahanlt village and Nankit village in Hpasaung.

In regards to the letter, KNPP on October 21 issued a statement claiming that Kayah State criticism over KNPP on violation of ceasefire agreement was totally false and based on inaccurate information, thus objecting to the letter of objection.
