The information team of the State Administration Council (SAC) announced the arrest of nine individuals who planned to detonate 107 mm homemade rockets at the crowded opening ceremony of Thanlyin Bridge 3.

The suspects, linked to the Yangon UG under the NUG, were apprehended on the morning of 8 June 2024 in a wooden cabin in the shipyard workers' housing area in Ward 61 of Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township, Yangon.

Those arrested included Sein Gyi (also known as Aung Htwe, 26), Cho Gyi (also known as Hein Htet Aung, 18), Min Thu (30), Maung Hein (24), Aung Thura Tun (25), Pyae Phyo Zaw (18), and Htet Akar Lin (26).

Authorities seized two 107 mm rockets, two fuses, two grenades, two batteries, four wire coils, and other related accessories.

Based on the detainees' confessions, additional suspects, Chit Kay Khaing (38) and Zarni Aung (also known as Ko Zar, 32), were identified and arrested on 9 June. Chit Kay Khaing, involved in firing rockets, was found at No 93, Thazin Street, Ward 72, Dagon Myothit (South) Township, while Zarni Aung was located at House No 111, Bandoola Street in the same township. They were in possession of one 107 mm rocket and a fuse.

In total, nine individuals — eight males and one female — were arrested, and authorities seized 107 mm rockets, three fuses, two grenades, two batteries, four wire coils, and other related items.

The detainees revealed that Arkar Min of the Brigade Drone Force PDF, who remains at large, provided instructions on using rockets via Instagram in April 2024. During the opening ceremony of the Thanlyin Bridge 3 on 19 May, Phyu Hnin Aye, also still at large, contacted Sein Gyi to orchestrate an explosion.

She transported three 107 mm rockets and two grenades. The group surveyed the bridge and selected a launch site about 1,000 meters east of the 'Bayin Gyi' sandstone trading business to execute their plan, according to the SAC.
