According to sources close to the Road Department of Thaton District in Mon State, a detour construction site next to the Kyoneeike Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road was attacked by a drone on May 13. The bridge had been destroyed by a mine in the early morning of May 11.

A person close to the Road Department reported that the group working on the detour had to abandon their efforts because the vehicles transporting earth for the detour were bombed by a drone while unloading on May 13.

He explained, "The initial plan was to build a detour. After that, the damaged parts of the bridge would be cleared and a temporary bailey bridge constructed. However, the drone attack on May 13 forced the team to retreat. Without adequate security from the relevant authorities, I believe there will be delays in constructing the detour road and the temporary bailey bridge."

Since the destruction of the Kyoneeike Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road between Thaton Township and Bilin Township, vehicles have had to use village roads as a bypass. These village roads are narrow and not designed for heavy traffic, leading to traffic jams. Additionally, there have been reports of fighting and incidents where travelers were injured or killed.

A passenger reported that two travelers were killed and a vehicle was damaged by gunfire on May 13.

"When I entered the village road from the side of Shwe Yaungpya Village in Bilin, I heard gunshots. Other people were walking, so I moved forward. I couldn’t go back. There were many cars behind me. Hearing the sounds of heavy weapons, the cars stopped, and we had to get out of the car and crouch on the side of the road. We had great trouble," recounted the passenger.

He also mentioned that it takes at least three to six hours to travel from Shwe Yaungpya Village in Bilin Township to Mogaung Village in Thaton Township. He advised travelers to bring water and food and to avoid the route unless absolutely necessary.

A car driver described the situation, saying that due to the fighting on the village roads, there are roadblocks and the risk of large weapons and explosions. "Because of the fighting, cars are getting stuck. When there is a battle, people don't know where to run. It's as if they are risking their lives on this journey," he said.
