A Myanmar worker was killed on the afternoon of May 12 when an air-conditioning pipe was cut with gas at a shop selling old goods in Bangkok, Thailand, sources said.

It is reported that the explosion occurred while cutting the air-conditioning pipeline using gas, and the person who died was a 36-year-old Myanmar worker named Saw Wae Ma Htoo of Karen ethnicity.

The explosion happened accidentally during work, and it is necessary to communicate with the Human Rights Development Foundation (HRDF) and Myanmar Labour Attaché Office in Thailand to obtain compensation under Thai law, said Chairman of the Joint Action Committee on Burmese Affairs (JACBA) U Moe Gyo.

"The worker died in an accident while cutting the air-conditioning pipeline using gas. It is likely that he will receive compensation for his life. His close relatives need to collect his documents through the Thai Human Rights Development Foundation (HRDF) and the Myanmar Labour Attaché Office in Thailand, and help the bereaved family to contact HRDF and the Labor Ambassador's Office to request their rights and the necessary protection for their citizens. According to Thai law, compensation must be paid. Currently, since he is dead, the funeral expenses of 20,000 Thai baht must be paid first. When it is finished, if we put in a living allowance and a social security fund according to the worker's working years, it is likely that we will get three types of compensation, including the social security fund. We would also like to appeal to each other to help each other here," said U Moe Gyo.

According to reports from Thailand, the Myanmar worker who was cutting the air-conditioning pipe had his hand amputated due to the explosion and suffered injuries to his face and body. Rescue teams rushed him to Chulalongkorn Hospital, but he died from his injuries.
