According to sources, the closure of the Thai-Myanmar border gates in Payathonzu town, Kayin State, has led to stranded trucks and disrupted the flow of commodities between Myanmar and Thailand.
The Sangkhlaburi Customs Department in Kanchanaburi town, Thailand, reported that Myanmar authorities ordered the shutdown of the Myanmar-Thai border gates in Payathonzu town since June 15.
With the border gates expected to remain closed for ten days, preparations are underway to import commodities through other border gates. The situation has left hundreds of trucks stranded in Sangkhlaburi, Kanchanaburi province.
Despite initial reports suggesting a reopening on June 22, uncertainty remains, and locals in Payathonzu town confirm that the border gates remain closed.
While other border checkpoints have legally reopened, the status of the Payathonzu border gate remains mysterious, subject to frequent changes based on regional security considerations.
