Military chief receives Chinese ambassador to Myanmar

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Chen Hai at the Parlour of Bayintnaung Villa on August 22, announced the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services.

At the meeting, they discussed the current standing of China with Myanmar without accepting pressure imposed by the international community which shows reason on human rights violation in Rakhine State, incidents of terror attacks in Pyin Oo Lwin Township and northern Shan State, clear denouncing of China on these terror attacks, and stance of China, China’s help in peace process of Myanmar, progress of peace talks, and tasks to be done, it said.

Senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and officials attended the meeting.

Union Minister for International Cooperation Kyaw Tin received the Chinese Ambassador at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on August 22.

Both sides held talks on bilateral relations, acceleration of cooperation and successful implementation of Belt and Road Initiative and Myanmar-China Economic Corridor. They also discussed establishment of border economic cooperation zone, repatriation process in Rakhine State and China’s help to Myanmar’s peace process, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sun Guo Xiang, China’s special envoy for Asian affairs met with the members of the Federal Political Negotiation Consultative Committee (FPNCC), the political negotiation team formed by Arakan Army (AA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), at Kunming in China on August 20 and China said they don’t accept the attacks in northern Shan State by the AA, MNDAA and TNLA and urged them to stop, according to reports from some media.

The fighting conducted by the three ethnic armed groups is unacceptable to China as it can harm stability in northern Myanmar and China is totally against them, announced the Chinese embassy in Myanmar on August 19.
