Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo, Chairman of Tatmadaw True News Information Team called for all ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) to go after the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA) capable of guaranteeing long-lasting peace.

The remarks of Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo came from his reply to the question raised by Irrawaddy News Agency about “What’s the opinion of Tatmadaw toward review of NCA?” to the press conference conducted by Tatmadaw True News Information Team in Nay Pyi Taw on July 23.

“The NCA is the best track toward peace. Political solutions are being sought to restore peace by drafting a framework. Moreover, Tatmadaw has stopped fighting with the EAOs in five military commands for seven months. We met in informal discussions. Our Tatmadaw always attended such informal meetings. The NRPC also met in the informal talks. Tatmadaw in collaboration with the government is working for restoring enduring peace in accord with the NCA procedures. We would like to All EAOs to follow the NCA with firm conviction,” said Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo.

The aim of the NCA is to restore eternal peace. The definition of the NCA is to achieve enduring peace based on justice and prestige through political dialogues that those worthy of participation in the peace process can take part in. The NCA is a perfect road, said Brig-Gen Soe Naing Oo.

“A framework has been already drafted to hold political dialogues. The main aim of the framework is to solve political problems in a political way instead of using military intervention. All those worthy of taking part in political dialogues are allowed to attend. Therefore, political dialogues came up to the Third Meeting for Union Peace Conference known as the 21st Century Panglong Conference. We found out 51 agreed points and therefore we would like to urge all EAOs to go after the NCA,” said Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo.

Regarding the prospects of peace in 2020, Tatmadaw issued a statement on ceasefire and eternal peace on December 21 in 2018 and that it ceased fire in five military commands for four months. The ceasefire has been extended to further four months until now, said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
