The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) intercepted the vehicle of Lisu militia leader U Shwe Min, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including U Shwe Min, according to sources.

The incident occurred three miles away from Waingmaw town in Kachin State, near Kakhashi Village, as reported by sources close to his family.

A man familiar with U Shwe Min's family stated, "His two bodyguards hit a mine and were subsequently shot by a machine gun. All three individuals tragically lost their lives. Their bodies were brought home yesterday, and discussions are underway regarding their burial service, which is expected to take place within the next two days."

U Shwe Min was actively involved in politics, having participated in the 2015 election after the establishment of the Lisu National Development Party (LNDP), which saw Hluttaw representatives, including U Shwe Min, from the party.

Similarly, in the 2020 general election, U Shwe Min secured the position of Kachin State Lisu Ethnic Affairs Minister.

The Lisu Militia Group, formed in 2016, gained prominence following political shifts in February 2021.
