Gunfire erupted on the Mawlamyine-Thanbyu Zayat highway killing a toll gate manager

Gunfire erupted on the Mawlamyine-Thanbyu Zayat highway near Kwan Hla Village in Mudon Township, Mon State, on the night of March 14, resulting in two vehicles being set ablaze and the tragic death of a toll gate manager, as reported by sources close to security forces and local residents.

 According to witnesses, the head of the Kamarwet police station, returning from an investigation in Kwan Hla Village, was ambushed by armed individuals inside the village's cemetery around 6:45 PM on March 14.

 While the police station head managed to escape, his vehicle was consumed by flames, potentially destroying a firearm left inside. 

Following this initial attack, another security team from Thanbyu Zayat Township arrived at the scene only to face renewed gunfire from the armed group within the cemetery. Despite the security team's retreat, their vehicle was also set on fire by the assailants.

 A local resident recounted hearing gunshots and explosions the previous night, causing fear and apprehension among the villagers. The toll gate manager from Thanbyu Zayat, who stopped to inspect the burning vehicles, was tragically killed at the scene. 

The morning after the incident, military personnel were observed patrolling and securing the area, indicating efforts to restore calm and investigate the violent events that unfolded the night before.
