The International Relations Committee of the Lower House has suggested that the government allow local and foreign organizations and media to have free movement in order to effectively respond to international accusations and pressure on the Rakhine issue.

The suggestion was included in a report of the committee on its work and functions from March 18, 2017 to September 19 this year submitted during a parliamentary session of the Lower House held in Nay Pyi Taw on December 17.

Myanmar needs not only to exercise an independent, active and non-aligned foreign policy but also to try to have good relations with all global countries. Therefore, local and international organizations and media should be allowed free access to Rakhine State to counter the international pressure and accusations over the Rakhine issue while the government needs to release true information and prevailing conditions in an more effective manner, the report suggests.

It points out few chances for NGOs and INGOs to visit the conflict areas have led to misunderstanding among the international community.

The government is urged to make a greater effort to release true news and information about the Rakhine issue for the knowledge of the international community and effective response to biased and fake news in the international arena, the committee suggests in its report.
