United Nationalities Alliance and its allied organisations would like the government and Tatmadaw to lead the nationwide ceasefire first although the government, the Tatmadaw and ethnic armed organizations play an important role in a bid to implement nationwide ceasefire, according to the statement released from the fourth conference of United Nationalities Alliance and its allied organizations.
The conference of United Nationalities Alliance and its allied organizations was held at Best Western Green Hill Hotel in Yangon on February 26 and 27. The conference focused on federal Union, peace and constitutional amendment. After the conference, the nine-point statement was released.
The conference was attended by 15 political parties, allied ethnic political parties, ethnic armed organizations and CSOs.
The statement said that severe clashes are taking place in Rakhine State that has been devoid of war for decades at a time when peace process is not moving ahead. This situation will express concerns over the interests of long term and short term in the country. Nationwide ceasefire is essential for peace, democracy and development.
Tatmadaw issued the statement on ceasefire and eternal peace on December 21, stating that Tatmadaw will stop fighting in five military commands for four months. Some ethnic armed organisations and ethnic political parties wish for a nationwide ceasefire, the statement said.
Tatmadaw is wanted to leave the political field for the sake of the interest of the State. Tatmadaw is needed to promise the public that it should leave the political atmosphere in an exact schedule, the statement said.
Tatmadaw will leave the political field if there are no ethnic armed organizations, Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo, Chairman of Tatmadaw True News Information Committee, told the press conference on February 23.
The people including farmers and workers are suffering the evils of the different issues facing the country. Most of the political forces and CSOs take the view that the issues are due to the weaknesses of the Constitution, the statement said.
