Fighting in Shwe Kokko region forces over 3,000 locals fleeing to Thailand

Due to the fighting occurred in Shwe Kokko region situated in Myanmar-Thai border area on April 5th, 3,043 displaced people have fled to Thailand by crossing Mori River, according to the sources came from Thailand.

As ongoing clashes, the dwellers from Shwe Kokko new city and those who worked at Chinese-run Casino are now fleeing from Shwe Kokko new city to the Thailand as well as the exist and entrance roads to the Shwe Kokko new city are being closed, according to the locals.

The fighting erupted near Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, starting from March 25th to April 5th. So, the locals from Shwe Mya Sandi new city, Hparchaung, Tonedata and Thingan Nyinaung new villages are now taking shelters in the monasteries in Myawaddy’s down town. However, the displaced peoples already faced difficulties of food and accommodation.
