Sai Sanwei, an elder from Tarlawgyi Village in Myitkyina Township, was abducted by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Kachin People's Defense Force (KPDF) on May 10 while traveling from Myitkyina to Tarlawgyi. His family has been unable to contact him for six days.

According to his family, Sai Sanwei was taken at the checkpoint between Tarsant and Ulok village while riding a motorcycle. "My mother prays every day. When we asked people from Tarlawgyi, they said he was taken to Laiza. We haven't been able to reach him by phone or in person. We want his immediate release," a family member said.

Following Sai Sanwei's abduction, the Shanni Literary and Culture Organization and his wife have been working with the Peace Group (PCG) in Myitkyina to secure his release. U Lamai Gunja from PCG stated, "They took him to Laiza to question him. He is safe."

Sai Sanwei has been active in community projects, including leading the construction of a self-sustaining bridge connecting Tarlawgyi and Khao Phu Pagoda. Due to political instability, he has not been able to continue his work. He is also the nephew of the late Sayadaw of Dharma Rakhina Watantho Monastery and ran unsuccessfully for the position of Minister of Shan Affairs in the 2020 general election.
