The Tatmadaw has reopened the Hakha–Thantlang communication route linking Hakha and Thantlang in Chin State, according to reports.

Since February 2023, the Chin National Front (CNF) and Chin Defence Force (CDF) joint forces had reportedly launched attacks against security personnel in Thantlang and carried out acts of sabotage, including the destruction of government buildings and the planting of explosive devices, before temporarily taking control of the town.

In response, the Tatmadaw conducted counter-terrorism operations against the insurgent groups. Following intense clashes, security forces regained control of Thantlang on October 29, 2023.

Although efforts have since been made to restore administration and implement rehabilitation and development projects in the town, insurgent groups have continued to target transportation routes in the area, disrupting the flow of goods and delaying reconstruction activities.

As part of ongoing security operations in Chin State, the Tatmadaw has been reestablishing control over areas temporarily occupied by insurgent groups, reopening transportation links, and facilitating the delivery of rehabilitation materials and essential supplies. Security operations along the Hakha–Thantlang route, a key transportation corridor for reconstruction work in Thantlang, began on June 4. During the operations, security forces regained control of Point 1921 on June 6 and Point 2069 on June 7. The Tawataing Kone camp was captured in phases on June 8. By the evening of June 9, the entire Hakha–Thantlang communication route had been brought back under government control, enabling the normal movement of passenger and cargo vehicles and allowing the transportation of goods to resume without disruption.

Following the reopening of the route, the Tatmadaw is assisting displaced residents who were temporarily forced to leave their homes due to the fighting to return to their communities. Mine-clearance operations are also being carried out to ensure the safety of the area, while efforts to repair damaged infrastructure and restore affected communities are continuing in cooperation with local residents.
